Improving wealth, quality of life, and our ecological impact

Sustainable Investments, Strong Performance

At Guide Financial we offer a sustainable investment model for people wanting to invest in and build returns from companies that are committed to reducing our environmental impact and upholding the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals.

Investment and superannuation clients can select our ethical sustainable growth model as part of their PRAEMIUM portfolios. As part of our membership with the AAN (Australian Advice Network), we are able to leverage their work in identifying suitable ethical companies to invest in. It took five people 12 months to develop a robust, sustainable investment philosophy and identify the leading managers that met our ethical investment criteria.

To do that, we partnered with organisations that have been working in the ethical investment arena for several years, including:

Sustainable Investments might surprise you

Our sustainable investments fund is a diversified growth model that is best of breed. Contrary to what people might initially think, it is not all about green energy, although it does include such stocks. The fund:

  • Excludes a range of industries, so no fossil-fuels, gambling, cigarette, alcohol and the like.

  • Excludes a companies that don’t’ have good governance or labour track record, e.g., Amazon.

  • Contains quality stocks that are well positioned for sustainable development. By quality we mean:

    • Brand quality – is a trusted brand and price leader
    • Quality of management team – honest, competent, and humble in the way they approach the business
    • Quality financials – no indebted balance sheet, no tax shortcuts, engenders confidence that they will be around for a long time.
  • Includes stocks that improve the quality of life in the developing world through equitable businesses.

  • Meets our requirements for transparency, liquidity and common-sense investments.

  • Pays a reasonable return with tremendous growth opportunity through companies opening up new markets.

As Nick Edgerton of Stewart Investors said, “We look at all parts of the economy. Our criteria are: how do we make better human development outcomes to lower our environmental footprint and at the same time make good returns for shareholders?”
